This workshop will provide training to service providers and livestock producers who are in need of developing nutrient and manure management plans for both the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Participants will learn where to find the necessary software and how to install it on their computers, how to determine critical areas in the field, how to determine erosion rates using RUSLE2, how to calculate P Index vulnerability ratings and how to incorporate these numbers into manure management plans for confinement facilities or nutrient management plans for open feedlots. The field day includes a complimentary evening meal provided by the Butler County Cattlemen. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. The Juchems farmstead is located three miles north of Plainfield at 33635 110th Street. From Plainfield, travel three miles north on Highway 218. Research exploring this unique system that incorporates perennials into working landscapes will be highlighted at a field day on Wednesday, September 2 hosted by the Iowa Learning Farm and the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. For 2009 we will be offering the Corn Disease Diagnostic and Management Clinic on Sept 3. By focusing on a single crop we can gain more depth on the topic and provide additional activities that the previous schedule didn't allow. We will be focusing on more diagnostics, laboratory activities, setup and analysis of on-farm trials, and on-going research being conducted by the ISU Department of Plant Pathology.
