Corn Production

Hybrid genetics research at ISU (2007)

Transgenic conversions of hybrid families have created hybrids with similar genetics that also contain single, double, and triple traits stacked on. Most people assume that the performance of each is similar to the parent (base genetics) except for increased insect or herbicide tolerance/resistance. Research addresses how the inclusion of these genetic traits impact overall performance of the corn hybrid in comparison to the parent in several production environments. The following genetics are included: parent (base genetics), european corn borer (ECB) resistance, rootworm (RW) resistance, and ECB + RW resistance.

The location of research investigating the performance of these transgenic conversions are denoted by a star; multiple trials exist at some locations.

Seed for this research project was supplied by Monsanto and Mycogen Hybrids.
