The following is a collection of video clips related to manure management issues. Some clips were developed for past Manure Applicator Certification programs and viewing them in this manner will not meet manure applicator certification requirements. Specific software requirements are included where needed.
How to Determine When Your Manure Management Plan Is Due
This video demonstrates how to determine when your manure management plan is due to the DNR. It will show you how to determine when your annual update is due and when your four-year P-Index plan is due with new RUSLE2 and P-Index calculations as well as new soil samples. If you have concerns about the information shown about your manure management plan you should contact your local DNR field office. This video was a cooperative effort between Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Iowa Pork Producers Association.

This video provides general information about manure management practices that are used as stewardship principles to help protect water quality. The practices discussed include manure sampling, your manure analysis, and land application.

This 13 minute video discusses how to manage hydrogen sulfide releases during agitation and pumping in deep-pit swine manure systems. This video was used in the 2009 Commercial and Confinement Manure Applicator Programs and was developed by Iowa State University in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Update on Deep-Pit Fires and Foam Part 1: Swine Deep-Pit Barn Fires: Understanding the Causes and Part 2: Foam Formation. Robert Burns, former professor, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department, and Lara Moody, former Program Manager, Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. This 20 minute video reviews recent deep-pit fires in Iowa, causes, foam formation and potential foam control mechanisms. This video was developed by the Iowa Manure Management Action Group.
