NRCS is currently revising the National 590 Nutrient Management Standard. The proposed new national 590 Nutrient Management technical standard was posted on January 11, 2011, on the Federal Register. Instructions for how to make comments are on this website. The due date for comments is February 25, 2011. The draft of the 590 Standard can be downloaded at
ftp://ftp-fc.sc.egov.usda.gov/NHQ/practice-standards/federal-register/ .

So you may ask how might this affect you? After the National Standard is finalized, Iowa NRCS will revise the Iowa 590 Standard to follow the national standard. One of the proposed changes to this standard would require an annual calculation of the P-Index each year manure is applied for nutrient management plans for NRCS.

A new web page has been created for the State Revolving Fund Loan Program.  You can access this page at www.IowaSRF.com. Included on this site is information for the Livestock Water Quality Loan Program. The Livestock Water Quality Program (LWQ) offers low-interest loans through participating lenders to Iowa livestock producers for projects to prevent, minimize or eliminate non-point source pollution of Iowa’s rivers and streams from animal feeding operations.

MANURE APPLICATOR CERTIFICATION:
