Welcome to the monthly update for the Iowa Manure Management Action Group (IMMAG) Web site. This update is provided as a service to inform you about changes made to the IMMAG Web Page or items of interest dealing with manure management and air quality from animal feeding operations. CURRENT NEWS: The Current News page on the IMMAG site is updated weekly. Please check this site often for the latest news regarding animal feeding operations and manure management issues.

Keep an eye on outdoor manure storage structures. Unfortunately, continued heavy rains in some locations in Iowa are continuing to put a strain on outdoor storage structures. Please take a few minutes to inspect your outdoor storage structures, observe freeboard requirements, and develop a plan to pump and land-apply manure as needed. Please work with your local DNR field office to develop the plan and to identify locations for manure application, especially in wet weather conditions. The soil and manure testing labs, soil testing labs, manure management planners and engineering consultant lists were all updated in early July. If you are fall into one of these categories and your business is not listed and you would like to be included on one of these lists, please contact me. These lists are compiled and provided as a service to our readers. ISU does not endorse any one company, individual or services mentioned.

July 23. Manure Management Field Day for Small and Medium Sized Dairies and Feedlots. This field day will held near Boyden, Iowa. The purpose of this field day is provide information and technical assistance to small and medium-sized dairies and open feedlots in regards to manure management issues. For more information and directions to the farm please click here. This event will be held rain or shine.

August 25. ISU Extension in partnership with Iowa DNR, will be hosting a statewide commercial manure applicator training workshop on August 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. A list of County Extension offices hosting this training can be found at this url. Please contact the location where you plan to attend so adequate certification materials and handout materials can be made available. We encourage all commercial manure applicator businesses to take advantage of this workshop to get new or existing employees trained prior to the busy fall manure application season. If you can’t attend this workshop, please contact your County Extension Office to schedule an appointment to watch the video/dvd training or contact your local DNR field office to schedule an appointment to take the certification exam.
