Please check this site often for the latest news regarding animal feeding operations and manure management issues. As reported in the first May IMMAG update, on May 13, the Environmental Protection Commission passed a motion giving DNR the go ahead to begin developing rules regarding the "practice of placing, spreading, or storing animal manure on frozen ground, including, where necessary, prohibiting this practice." Prior to this commission meeting, the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences had submitted documents regarding this topic to the Environmental Protection Commission. Links to those materials can now be found on the IMMAG homepage, in the center column. As discussion continues on the issue of manure application to snow-covered or frozen ground, available materials will be posted to the IMMAG homepage. You can access the materials on the homepage a: http://www.agronext.iastate.edu/immag/ or from the direct links listed below.
