CURRENT NEWS: The Current News page on the IMMAG site is updated weekly. Please check this site often for the latest news regarding animal feeding operations and manure management issues.

IMMAG Fact: This month marks the 10 year anniversary of the IMMAG Web page. The DNR recently announced the Livestock Water Quality Facilities Program, which is administered through the Iowa Agricultural Development Authority, has been expanded to offer low interest loans to small feedlot producers who want to move all or part of their feedlot operation under roof. For more information see:

MANURE APPLICATOR CERTIFICATION: If you can't be in the field due to wet conditions, now is a great time to meet your manure applicator certification requirements. Confinement site manure applicators need to attend 2 hours of training annually to meet their certification requirements. Commercial manure applicators are required to attend 3 hours of annual training. Commercial applicators are allowed to work for 30 days prior to meeting certification requirements but must be working toward certification. Please contact your County Extension Office to schedule time to meet the required annual training. If you have questions about the manure applicator certification program please call me at 515-294-9590.

PUBLICATIONS: Volume 7 of the Iowa Manure Manager Series was recently posted to the web. "Small Livestock Farms" is available on the web at: This fact sheet reviews requirements for small animal feeding operations and livestock farms. If you don't think certain regulatory requirements apply to you because you don't have many animals, you may want to review this fact sheet. And while not all regulations apply to smaller livestock farms, the fact sheet includes some best management practices for your consideration. You can also find the first six volumes in this series at the same link.
