Growers Can Gain the Advantage at ISU’s Crop Advantage Series

By Brent Pringnitz

10 Jan 2009 -  AMES, Iowa -- Fungicides and corn yields are among the featured topics at the 2009 Crop Advantage Series. Sponsored by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension, this series of programs is being offered at 13 locations around Iowa. Sessions started Jan. 5 and continue through Jan. 29.

“This year’s program brings timely topics, such as dealing with rising fertilizer prices, directly to our producers,” says John Holmes, ISU Extension field agronomist for central Iowa. “With the rapid changes taking place in Iowa crop production it’s important that we provide the latest information to growers.”

The other featured speaker is Marlin Rice, ISU Extension entomologist. He will be discussing soybean aphid management and challenges producers can expect from this pest in 2009.

The remainder of the program will feature presentations on soil fertility, pest management, marketing and crop production issues. These topics are different at each of the 13 meetings in the series. A full listing of meetings and topics is available at www.cropadvantage.org

For more information about this program call your local ISU Extension field agronomist or e-mail aep@iastate.edu. Additional information and online registration is available on the Crop Advantage Web site at www.cropadvantage.org.
