Announcing the "Benchmark Study"

By Micheal D. K. Owen

15 Jun 2009 - A multistate, multi-year study has been conducted in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Indiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina to determine the impact of biotechnology on weed communities, crop yields, and ultimately, the sustainability of glyphosate-based crop production systems.  Five overview reports that are taken from peer-reviewed scientific publications provide the high-lights of the Benchmark Study and are available at www.weeds.iastate.edu.  The Benchmark Study involves growers and has been conducted on grower fields at a scale that represents current agricultural practices.  It is anticipated that the information from the Benchmark Study will provide a series of recommendations for growers to improve profitability and maintain the sustainability of current biotechnological traits.
